Medallion from the 1908 Olympic GamesThe Olympics: A Guide to Reference Sources

Library of Congress Resources:
Prints and Photographs; Maps; Main Reading Room Vertical File

In the Prints and Photographs Division (LM 339) there are three finding lists for Olympic materials in the Division's collections: Olympics in New York World Telegram & Sun Collection; Olympic Games, 1896-1984: a Full List of Images Found in "lots" and Reading Room Files; and Olympic Games, 1968- 1980: Yanker Poster Collection. Copies of these finding lists are also in the Main Reading Room vertical file.

In the Geography and Map Division (LM B02), collections include maps of cities which have hosted Olympic Games. Maps are contemporary with the Olympiads. A briefly annotated finding list is available both in the Geography and Map Reading Room and the Main Reading Room vertical file.

A current list of banned substances is kept in the Main Reading Room vertical file. Consult a reference librarian. Bear in mind that these are subject to periodic change. It is hoped that one or more websites will eventually post and maintain this information. Later printings of this guide will endeavor to reflect this, should it occur.
