Hosting the Games--Administrative Issues

Being the site of the Olympics brings international attention and prestige to the host city and country and is much sought after. Although viewed as an economic windfall for the host jurisdiction, it also can be an administrative nightmare and cause long-term public indebtedness. Even losing the bids for host can cost exorbitant sums. The following books offer great insight into the process of bidding, winning, and staging an Olympiad.

    From stadia to swimming pools, a history of constructing Olympic settings through the 1980 Moscow games. The final chapter is devoted to the challenges facing the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee in 1984 as well as future games.
