Civil Engineering:
Public Works/Infrastructure

Tracer Bullet 91-2

SCOPE

Much has been heard in recent years about the neglect and consequent deterioration of the nation's public infrastructure--the publicly financed structures and facilities that support essential functions such as transportation (land, water, and air), water supply and water and wastewater treatment, and waste disposal. This guide furnishes a review of the literature in the collections of the Library of Congress that deals with public infrastructure, its history and development and proposals for its maintenance and improvement, including transfer of some facilities to the private sector. Not intended as a comprehensive bibliography, this guide is designed--as the name of the series implies--to put the reader "on target."
