Description: 19th Century Masterfile contains more than 60 core subject indexes to periodicals, books, newspapers, patents, and US and UK government documents covering the early 1700's to 1906. Formerly known as W. F. Poole's Index to Periodical Literature, search or browse the database for:

• Series I: Multi-Title Periodical Indexes - contains Poole's Index to Periodical Literature; Index to Legal Periodical Literature (Jones and Chipman); Catalogue of Scientific Papers; the Religion Index; and more. The Catalogue of Scientific Papers, 1800-1900 , Royal Society (Great Britain) includes 750,000 citations covering 1,555 periodicals in various languages, including the transactions of the European academies and other learned societies. Also contains the Congressional Record 1789-1925, ( Annals of Congress 1789-1824; Register of Debates 1824-1837; Congressional Globe 1833-1873) with more than 600,000 citations covering all aspects of American life, from the Constitutional Convention through the Industrial Revolution.
• Series II: Indexes to Books - ALA Index to General Literature; Wright American Fiction II (1851 - 1875); 19th-century Monograph and Periodical Record; and more.
• Series III: Indexes to Newspapers - New York Times Index (1863-1905); New York Daily Tribune Index (1875-1906); Palmer's Index to the Times (London 1880-1890); and Index to the Oregon Spectator (1846 - 1854).
