The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected Michael S. McCray, P.G. as chief of its Engineering Geology Section.

HUNTINGTON, WVA...The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected two retirees as inductees into its Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees. This year's inductees include Frank E. Matthews, Jr. (posthumously) and Jerry Phelps.

New contracting opportunities for small businesses are available at Burnsville Lake for interested parties wishing to do business with the Government. A contract will be awarded for cleaning all recreational facilities at Burnsville Lake. Also, a contract will be awarded for mowing all areas and for providing maintenance services. The Corps of Engineers is actively seeking new vendors.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.... The contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin work that requires temporarily closing Main Street in Grundy, Va. from the Slate Creek Bridge (S.R.-83) to Maple Street. The road will be closed beginning Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 and is expected to remain closed for about eight weeks.

Reference Notice to Navigation Interests 08-61, dated 21 October 2008. Notice is given that the facility maintenance dredging, Ohio River, mile 159.7 has been cancelled.
CHANNEL MAINTENANCE DREDGING KANAWHA RIVER Notice is given that on or about 17 November 2008, channel maintenance dredging will commence in selected commercially navigable portions of the Kanawha River. Madison Coal and Supply Company, contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will dredge approximately 24,000 cubic yards of material at various locations. Dredging will begin at Kanawha River mile 29 then proceed upstream.

HUNTINGTON, WV... The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected new lockmasters at two of its navigation dams. C.I. Mugrage is the new lockmaster at Willow Island Locks and Dam (Newport, Ohio) and Larry J. Guthrie has been selected as the new lockmaster at London Locks and Dam (London, W.Va.).

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has reopened the Route 35 fishing access area at Winfield Locks and Dam. Construction on the fishing access site originally scheduled to begin this month has been temporarily delayed.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $1.2M contract to Tab Construction Company, Inc. for Bolivar Downstream Access and Filter Blankets and a $734K contract to Madison Coal & Supply for Zoar Levee Interior Collection System. These interim risk reduction measures are part of the Corps continuing commitment for public safety.
HUNTINGTON, WV... The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that John Jaeger, Ph.D., has returned to the Huntington District as Chief, Engineering and Construction Division after a lengthy assignment in Corps Headquarters in Washington. During this assignment, Jaeger was responsible for leading the Interagency Performance Evaluation Team (IPET) that analyzed the failure of the New Orleans levees.

The Corps of Engineers is notifying those who use Summersville and Sutton Lakes for recreation that the lakes are below their normal summer pool levels and will continue to fall, if no rainfall occurs in the New River basin. Despite that, the majority of recreational facilities are still open to the general public.

HUNTINGTON, WV... The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing its interim risk reduction measures on the Zoar Levee. TAB Construction, contractor for the Corps, is 60% complete with the initial filter placement.
HUNTINGTON, WV...The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began decreased releases at Bolivar Dam this afternoon from 2000 cfs to 500 cfs. Dover Dam continues releases of 7000 cfs. This will reduce the amount of water in the Dover pool.
