Home | GIS Clearinghouse GIS ClearinghouseGIS DataIntroductionWelcome to the Pacific Southwest GIS Clearinghouse. Here you will find geospatial data for the National Forests in California, along with regionwide, provincewide, and statewide datasets available for download. Most forestwide data was captured from 1:24,000 scale maps. Other layers have been developed for multi-forest areas such as the Sierra Nevada, Northwest California, and Southern California planning areas, related to ongoing Land Management Planning and Monitoring efforts. Regionwide and State of California layers are the result of Regional analysis needs and cooperative mapping efforts with the State and other Federal partners. Our goal is to share the most current available data for bioregion, province and forestwide planning, assessment and monitoring. The spatial data is in the process of being migrated from ArcInfo Coverages to ArcGIS personal geodatabases. These .mdb files can only be used with ArcGIS and cannot be viewed spatially with any other application. All new data will be posted on this website with a NAD83 Datum. All older data will remain in NAD27 until replaced. Here is a document that gives further information about these projections. Standards for GIS data can be found in the Forest Resource Database (FRDB) data dictionary. These standards will be modified as the Forest Service GIS Data Dictionary becomes finalized and will be structured to meet Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) data requirements. The metadata is provided in .html format. Some additional information may be available in .pdf format and can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download the Acrobat Reader free of charge.
