Based on current OPTN data as reported. Due to transplants and donors recovered that are reported later than the actual occurrence, the totals shown may not be representative of final totals. See Data section for final totals of previous years.
Waiting List Candidates reflects the current number of people on the national waiting list for organ transplant. The waiting list count is continuously updated throughout the day. Although the number of registrations is not listed here, a candidate has multiple registrations if he or she is waiting at more than one center, or is waiting for multiple organs.
Transplants Year-to-Date reflects the reported number of organs transplanted as of the given date. A transplant is considered to have occurred, and therefore is counted, once anesthesia has been induced for the transplant procedure. Transplant counts are calculated and posted weekly.
Donors Year-to-Date reflects the reported number of organs recovered from living and deceased donors as of the given date. A recovered deceased donor is one from whom at least one vascularized, solid organ (kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, lung, or intestine) was recovered for the purposes of organ transplantation. Deceased donors from whom only heart valves and/or pancreas islet cells are recovered are not included. A living donor is a living person from whom an organ (usually kidney, liver, or lung) is recovered for transplantation. Donor counts are calculated and posted weekly.
Double kidney, double lung, and heart-lung transplants are counted as one transplant.
