Point Reyes National Seashore
Current Fire Information

Wildfires:
There are no fires burning in Point Reyes National Seashore at this time.

Prescribed Fires:
There are currently no prescribed fires burning in Point Reyes National Seashore.

Point Reyes Fire Management has cancelled plans to do two 40-acre controlled burns along Highway 1 during the week of October 27. This will allow more time to prepare for mechanical thinning projects at Golden Gate NRA which are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 3. It is anticipated that the Highway 1 burns will not be rescheduled until 2009.

These fires were to be part of a series of burns in the Olema Valley that are part of the Highway 1 Fuelbreak. The combination of mowing and burning in these units is showing success at controlling the spread of non-native French broom. These treatments are helping to maintain open grasslands in the Olema Valley which would be strategic areas for managing a wildfire if one occurred. For a map of the Highway 1 burn units, download the 2005 fire newsletter (275 KB PDF).
