The Virginia Company
|
King James I chartered the Virginia Company of London in 1606 to
establish a commercial venture in "Virginia," which included all
lands in North America not occupied by the Spanish or French. The
company founded the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown.
Its records are an invaluable resource for the early settlement
of America. Shown here are court proceedings for April 12, 1621.
