Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that he has
been invited by Reverend Malaki Tauiliili, II and Reverend Dr. Elder Ioane
Mailo to speak at the “Omai Fa’atasi” youth rally this weekend in the Los
Angeles area. According to Rev. Tauiliili, over 1,000 youth from
about a dozen Samoan churches around the Los Angeles and Orange County
areas of California have confirmed their participation in Sunday’s youth
rally. The objective is to provide positive reinforcement to the
youth and inspire them through Christian fellowship and education to be
good citizens.
“I am very pleased and honored to be invited to speak to our youth
in California,” Congressman Faleomavaega said. “I feel it is important
to reach out to our youth and encourage them to stay focused on their education
and dreams.”
“I have recently learned that the drop-out rate among our students
in the Los Angeles area is well over 60-percent. This is unacceptable
and alarming,” Congressman Faleomavaega said. “I will be speaking
openly about this issue and discussing ways in which we can come together
as communities to address this problem.”
The Omai Fa’atasi youth rally is co-sponsored by the youth associations
of the Samoan CCCCC (Carson, CA) and the Samoan Congregational Christian
Church of South Los Angeles. Rev. Tauiliili and Rev. Dr. Mailo are
the respective pastors. Among the speakers expected at the rally
are Rikishi (WWF wrestler), Marques Tuiasosopo (Quarterback – University
of Washington), Fa’aesea “The Tank” Mailo (USC Trojans), Stephen Su’a (UCLA
Bruins), and Dr. Kurene Mao, a well-known Samoan physician in private practice
in the Carson area. |
