Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that he received a personal letter of appreciation from the Honorable Kessai H. Note, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The letter was in response to Congressman Faleomavaega’s visit to the Marshall Islands in January of this year as part of the Congressional Delegation led by Chairman Richard Pombo of the House Committee on Resources. Only Members and key Hill staff who work on Territorial issues were invited to accompany the Chairman.
President Note’s letter to Congressman Faleomavaega reads –
First and foremost, let me thank you for making the long journey across the Pacific to visit the Marshall Islands. It was truly a pleasure to welcome you again to our small island home.
With the recent passage of the Compact of Free Association, As Amended, in the Congress, the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of a new era in our strategic partnership with you meant a great deal to all of us. In particular, I know that the parents of the young Marshallese men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces overseas greatly appreciated your visit.
It is so rare that Members have a firsthand understanding of the issues and environment that shape the lives of our people. You have spared the time to visit us not once but many times and I want to thank you for that. It is heartwarming to know that friends like yourself from the region continue to not only take an interest in our issues but advocate on our behalf within the Congress. |
