“This is a population-formula based grant program that was approved by Congress in 1996,” Congressman Faleomavaega said.  “In other words, Congress predetermines the minimum amount each qualifying unit gets without the states or territories having to compete to receive these funds.  Furthermore, the territories are exempted from the matching funds requirement.”

       “I have read news reports and heard from several people about the improved services provided by our local library,” Faleomavaega continued.  “There are also reports of increased patronage by our local folks, especially the young and school aged children, and that is very encouraging.”  

       “I congratulate Ms. Morales and our library staff for the good work they are doing in promoting library services.  I would also encourage our library staff to take advantage of other available federal grants and programs that are made available specifically to libraries, such as grants for education and training, research and demonstration, and preservation of library materials,” Faleomavaega concluded.
