polygons as background map

Hi 
This is my second day playing with sgt
libs and so far I love it. I have one question about using a shapefile
as background map. I have polygons read from the shapefile and I guess
the next step is to convert polygons to SimpleLine.  Is this the right
way? I got this idea from TAOMap.java example. IT looks computationally
wasteful to me. Is there a way to use polygons as they are?
