Transportation & Relocation Services - Household Goods Program

Couple sitting among shipping boxesHousehold Goods Program

The VA Centralized Household Goods Program was established to efficiently and economically transport eligible employee’s or new hires household goods when they are relocating from one official duty station to another, both domestically and internationally under a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) assignment. When eligible this includes transporting privately owned vehicles, professional books and materials (PBP&E) and unaccompanied air baggage.

Household goods shipments are a VA benefit authorized as a result of this Permanent Change of Station (PCS) assignment.  All VA PCS moves are performed under the actual expense method of the VA Centralized Household Goods Program and a VA issued bill of lading.  All carriers are pre-approved and continually performance monitored.  Employees and new hires electing to perform a Do-It-Yourself (DITY) household goods move select their own carrier or rental vehicle/trailer and are reimbursed for their actual out of pocket expenses not to exceed the estimated charges for the same move conducted within the VA Centralized Household Goods Program.

VA utilizes the services of Relocation Management Worldwide as our move manager for all moves to include counseling for both carrier moved and DITY moves.
