Computing Services Manager – Mid Level and Senior

Work Schedule: Full Time
Salary: $75,000 – $110,000
Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area

 

The CIA’s Data Centers are mission facilities that are relied upon to deliver business critical informational services and solutions to Intelligence Community customers on a 24 X 7 basis. High efficiency of operations is a must to ensure full availability, capacity and security of essential information.

Computing Services Managers need a strong technical understanding of the processes and complexities associated with data center operations, contractor, and infrastructure management. Personnel selected provide the leadership to ensure computing systems are fully protected and functioning properly by monitoring for problems; establishing and ensuring compliance with installation standards, production scheduling and control, service level support, administration, equipment operations, backup and disaster recovery, and procedural documentation. Some key responsibilities of a data center manager also include:

  • Strong knowledge of data center electrical systems, mechanical systems, security control systems, and all other aspects of data center facility management

  • Produce, interpret and present various facility reports (capacity, security, power, etc.).

  • Maintain an accurate inventory control system.

  • Facility project management (installation, moves, and decommissions).

  • Drive the selection of data center standard technologies to support business solutions. Base decisions on knowledge of business needs, industry direction and budgetary constraints.

  • Assist in the financial responsibilities for data center operation initiatives. Build relationships with key vendors and track license agreements as appropriate.

  • Provide data center consulting services across multiple business units.

  • Consider the long term implications of data center architecture decisions.

  • Supervise and develop data center personnel.


Minimum qualifications include the following: Five years of experience in the technology industry and a familiarity with the delivery of business process and systems integration is required. A thorough knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical engineering concepts. A BS and/or MS degree in a technical field or related field is preferred. Certifications in the data center disciplines (e.g., CDCM, DCEE, CDCP, CDCS, CDCE, CDOM, DCDE, DCDV) are preferred. Higher-level positions require 5-10 years of progressive experience and knowledge as well as supervisory experience. Managers must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The following abilities are highly desired:

  • Strong knowledge of data center design techniques. Includes strong understanding of component design, methodologies and techniques.

  • Applicable experience and/or education in computer science or mechanical / electrical engineering (or equivalent experience) along with technical certifications with the ability to perform complex tasks and troubleshooting.

  • Solid knowledge of Business Continuity, High Availability and Disaster Recovery standards between all regions of the environments.

  • 6+ years experience in data center facility management, Business continuity and disaster recovery at a medium or large facility. 15000+ Sq feet of raised floor or more.

  • 4+ years experience in electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment including, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, PDU units, and environmental.

  • 2+ years experience in vendor and contract management.

  • 3+ years experience producing capacity planning reports, various other facility management reports (proficient at Visio or Cad)

  • Experience with audit regulations on facility management of a data center.

  • Strong Understanding of Lights Out concepts of data center operations.

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting level business requirements and creating solution architectures.
