Join us for BUILT FOR THE BAYOU, a workshop exploring environmental adaptations in design in Louisiana's historic Gulf Coast architecture and their application in sustainable renovation.

Instructors

Eddie CazayouxEdward J. Cazayoux, FAIA
Eddie Cazayoux is a native of Pointe Coupee Parish from New Roads, LA. Eddie is an architect whose firm, EnvironMental Design, practices sustainable architecture and historic preservation. He has received awards for his work from the U.S. Dept of Energy, U.S. National Park Service, AIA Louisiana, and the State of Louisiana, Energy Division. Eddie is a retired Professor of Architecture in the School of Architecture & Design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he was the Director from 1985 to 1998. He has been awarded the Distinguish Professor by the University and held the Regents Professorship in Architecture. He has a Masters of Architecture and a Masters of City Planning from Georgia Tech. He has written Natural Louisiana Architecture and Environmental & Climatic Responsive Restoration & Renovation of Older Houses in Louisiana. Eddie is president of the Vermilionville Foundation, a living history museum in Lafayette.

Gene CizekEugene D. Cizek, Ph.D., FAIA
Gene Cizek is the Richard Koch Chair of Architecture and Director of the Preservation Studies Program at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Cizek teaches courses in building preservation, environmental conservation, and heritage education. He received his training at Louisiana State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Delft Institute of Technology LSU, and Tulane University.



Barrett KennedyBarrett Kennedy, Ph.D.
Kennedy, a New Orleans native, is professor of Architecture at Louisiana State University and teaches courses in heritage conservation, disaster management, and community design. He served as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development (College of Art+Design) and Director of the CADGIS Research Laboratory from 1999-2008, and has brought over $3,000,000 in research and development funding to LSU since joining the university faculty in 1990. Prior to his arrival at LSU, Kennedy was a historical architect with the National Park Service and worked with architectural firms in Oregon, Mississippi, and Virginia. He received his degrees in history, environmental design, and architecture from Tulane University, Virginia Tech, and the UNESCO sponsored International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome.

Mark ThomasMark W. Thomas III, MPS, LA
Mark Thomas is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture and the Director of the Summer in South America Program at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Having trained in landscape architecture and historic preservation, Thomas teaches courses in building preservation, environmental conservation, and urban landscapes. He holds degrees from Louisiana State University and Tulane University.
