COPD
Frequently Asked Questions
10. What medications are used to treat
COPD?
Bronchodilators and inhaled steroids are two medications used to
treat COPD. Bronchodilators work by relaxing the muscles around the
airways, opening them and making it easier to breathe. People with
mild COPD take bronchodilators using an inhaler only when needed.
Those with moderate or severe COPD may need more regular treatment.
Inhaled steroids also are used for people with moderate or severe
COPD in order to reduce swelling in the airways.
