A Severe Squall Line moved through central Alabama during the early morning hours of April 30, 2005. The squall line crossed the Alabama-Mississippi stateline around midnight and intensified. The first warnings were issued around 130 AM CDT and continued through 800 AM CDT. The line of thunderstorms produced widespread wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, knocking down numerous trees and power lines across central Alabama. Seven weak tornadoes were produced along the line of thunderstorms that caused additional concentrated damage areas. National Weather Service meteorologists are still surveying damage areas and will post new information when all the events are evaluated.
