NCPTT’s Jason Church conducted fieldwork as part of a comparative study of commercially available cleaners for use on federally issued headstones. He traveled to national cemeteries in St. Louis (MO), Santa Fe (NM), San Francisco, (CA), and Alexandria (LA). Church monitored biological re-growth, color changes, and possible surface alterations after cleaning test patches and whole headstones with one of the five test cleaners being studied.
