CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN AND IDENTITY FOR GERMAN WINES

Importers, and others concerned:

Purpose. The purpose of this circular is to inform importers of German Wines that the certification of origin system for German Wines exported to the United States does not extend to all German Wines.

Background. Refer to Industry Circular Nos. 60-5 and 60-47.

Conclusion. This office has been informed by the Federal Republic of Germany that, in addition to wines described as "May Wine" and "Sekt" certificates of origin are also not issued with respect to wines described as "Sparkling" or "Schaumwein"; or to wines produced from fruits other than grapes. In view of this, certificates of origin and identity will not be required by United States Customs officers with respect to any of such wines.

Copies of this Circular are being forwarded to the Collectors of Customs at the various ports of entry as their authority to discontinue requiring certificates of origin for the products identified above.

Inquiries. Correspondence in regard to this Industry Circular should refer to its number and be addressed to the Director, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division (Attention: CP:AT:B), Washington 25, D. C.
