Mark W. Bennett is Chief Judge, US District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. Well-versed in Title VII litigation, Judge Bennett recently issued the decision in Dunbar v. Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers of Iowa, Inc., a case analyzing the continuing utility, in light of the Supreme Court's decision in Desert Palace v. Costa, of the McDonnell Douglas burden-shifting standards in circumstantial evidence cases. A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in 1972 and the Drake Law School in 1975, Judge Bennett was appointed to the federal bench by President Clinton in 1994. Before his appointment, Judge Bennett was in private practice, served as General Counsel to the Iowa Civil Liberties Union, and was a Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Iowa.
