International Experience & Technical Assistance Program

International Assignments

IETA participants are required to complete a supervised international field assignment of at least 12 weeks with established CDC programs [e.g. Global AIDS Program (GAP), STOP team, Global Immunization Division (GID), etc.].  Assignments may also be secured with outside organizations if a CDC employee acts as the participant’s supervisor [e.g. the Carter Center, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), etc.].  Salaries are paid by the participants’ offices, while host agencies cover all costs related to the assignment.  The IETA program will serve as coordinator for these assignments, soliciting potential placement opportunities that candidates then interview with host countries in order to secure.  Participants are also encouraged to seek these opportunities through their own connections as well.  These assignments must all take place between April 15 – November 30.

International assignments determined to be appropriate for the IETA program will include:

Potential duties in which an IETA participant might be placed:

The IETA program, in conjunction with hosting CDC programs and partner organization reserve the right to terminate an assignment if it is felt that the assignee is not fulfilling his/her duties, is not working well with the partners or is in any way damaging to the IETA program.
