Outreach takes many forms.  Any time someone from FGDC sits on a panel or gives a formal presentation at an international conference, helps to conduct or support training in other nations, and in general carries the word about SDI and its benefits toward achieving good governance and business practices.  

One of FGDC’s bigger efforts was to play a major role on the creation of a Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association.  In 2003 the GSDI Association was incorporated in the US, and at the beginning of 2004 in Bangalore, India at the 7th GSDI meeting, it became a formal organization with dues-paying/voting members and a cadre of elected officers.
