The Library's collection, built up over 114 years, is a living depository of the social and political history of the
country and of world developments. It has also been chosen to be the depository library of International Entities,
such as the Organization of American States since 1945, the United Nations since 1952, and the European
Economic Community since 1964, among others. The core collection contains over 700,000 items (books,
pamphlets, rare and valuable books); 7,000 periodical publications (700 are Chilean magazines, some of which
date from the last century); 97 national newspapers; an archive of press cuttings, with more than 3,000,000
recoverable items on the political, social and economic life of the country; a complete collection of the Daily
Register of the National Congress from its beginnings in 1811; manual catalogs, microfilm collections, and CD
ROM and electronic data bases. Presents direct links to legal information, civic education, publications, digital
