VA Patients Receive Better Care Than Non-VA Patients

December 21, 2004

nurse with patient VA patients are significantly more likely than similar patients in the general population to receive recommended preventive and chronic care, according to a study released in the Annals of Internal Medicine. "These findings are important because they show it is possible to improve the care patients receive," said lead study author Steven M. Asch, M.D., M.P.H., of the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, the University of California, Los Angeles and RAND in an interview reported in Medical News Today. Study authors link VA’s accomplishments to VA’s extensive electronic patient record and its system for measuring and monitoring care.
