Description: AATA is a comprehensive database of 100,000 abstracts and bibliographic records of literature related to the preservation and conservation of material cultural heritage. Subjects covered include: restoration; preservation; technical documentation of works of art; material culture; archaeological and architectural sites and materials; techniques applicable to the study and treatment of works of art; archaeological materials; physical and chemical properties and behavior of the materials that constitute or affect works of art and material culture, as well as the substances used in their preservation treatment, repair, and presentation; and nontechnical literature addressing issues, ethics, and emerging areas of conservation research and practice such as cultural tourism, economics and values.
Article abstracts come from more than 470 journals covering a wide variety of subjects, as well as the following sources:
- Abstracts of books, reports, conference proceedings, dissertations, and other print resources, as well as audiovisual and selected digital resources
- All 36 volumes of Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts (AATA) and its predecessor, IIC Abstracts, issued from 1955 to 2002
- Over 1,600 abstracts published between 1932 and 1955 by the Fogg Art Museum and the Freer Gallery of Art
Registration is required to access the database, but no fee is necessary.
