Chinese Cultural Revolution Database ON-SITE ACCESS ONLY

Access: On-Site Access Only

Description: Compilation of historical resources from an abundance of publications, both official and unofficial, which appeared during the Cultural Revolution undertaken by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As described in the forward, "The Cultural Revolution was an organized and calculated mobilization of violence on the part of those who started it, and the worst stage of revolutionary violence at that. It was neither an "accident" nor a "deviation." Rather, it was the natural outcome of a situation whereby an absolute dictator controlled revolutionary violence."

Covering a thirty year period (1966 - 1996), the database includes:

  • CCP Documents, Directives, and Bulletins concerning the Cultural Revolution.
  • Mao Zedong's Speeches, Directives, and Writings concerning the Cultural Revolution.
  • Lin Biao's Speeches, Directives, and Writings concerning the Cultural Revolution.
  • Speeches, Instructions, and Other Writings by CCP Leaders during the Cultural Revolution.
  • Important Newspaper and Magazine Editorials and Articles concerning the Cultural Revolution.
  • Important Documents of the Red Guards and the Mass Movement during the Cultural Revolution.
  • Important Documents of Heterodox Thoughts during the Cultural Revolution.
Index is available in English and Chinese; however much of the full text is in Chinese. Published by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Universities Service Centre for China Studies.
