On Site Programs

The Digital Reference Section provides presentations and workshops to groups, including the academic community, researchers, librarians, and life-long learners, who are visiting the Library of Congress. These programs provide an orientation to resources on the Library's Web site and how these resources may be accessed and utilized to further historical understanding and scholarship. In addition, with advanced notification, programs can be customized to the needs of the group.

Presentations may be up to one hour in length and are comprised of demonstrations of the Library Web site's services and features, including the online digital collections. Currently, the Library's Web site contains over ten million sound recordings, still and moving images, prints, documents, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience, as well as a growing body of international and multi-lingual materials.

Workshops contain the same content as presentations, with the added benefit of hands-on guided practice. These are held in Library classrooms equipped with Internet-connected computers and may be 2-3 hours in length.
