Jefferson National Expansion Memorial
Private William Bratton
Drawing of William Bratton.
Sketch copyright by Michael Haynes.

P.S. On the expedition I had a terrible pain in my back which lasted for several weeks. The captains made me take hot sweat baths while we stayed with the Nez Perce Indians, and I got better. After the expedition I lived in Kentucky and Missouri, and served in the War of 1812 against the British. I got married in 1819, and lived in Waynestown, Indiana. I died in 1841 at the age of 63.
