boy scout merit badge workshops
 

Merit badge workshops are scheduled at various times throughout the year. These half-day workshops are designed to help scouts earn specific badges.Law Merit Badge
Does enforcing the law involve bravery? Does telling the truth equal courage? Investigate the judicial system and its important role in our society. Scouts re-enact a trial in our historic courtrooms and debate historic and contemporary issues. An attorney and a National Park Service Law Enforcement Ranger discuss their roles and responsibilities in society. Addresses the Law Merit Badge.

Railroading Merit Badge
Join us aboard the rails for a new, day-long Railroading Merit Badge Workshop. Scouts will travel round-trip on an Amtrak train between St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois. A National Park Service Ranger will present the ins and outs of railroading, including history, economics and safety. In Springfield, boys will have the opportunity to explore the Lincoln sites with National Park Service staff. Reservations are required and space is limited.
(Amtrak Rail System and Lincoln National Historic Site).
Amtrak tickets cost approximately $25-$35 per person.

American Heritage
Explore the history of St. Louis at and around the Historic Old Courthouse and learn about the important role this river city played in the development of our nation. Afterwards, take a cruise on the Mississippi River aboard one of the Gateway Arch Riverboats, the Tom Sawyer or the Becky Thatcher.
(Historic Old Courthouse, Gateway Arch Riverboat).
The cost for the Gateway Arch River Cruise is $4.00 per person.

Indian Lore Merit Badge
In this new, half-day workshop, participants will explore the Plains Indian culture. Scouts will reenact some daily activities of Plains Indian life, including constructing a tipi, handling living history items, playing traditional games and communicating through sign language. With the help of the National Park Service staff, scouts will be able to complete the merit badge.
(Gateway Arch and Museum of Westward Expansion).
This workshop is free.

Did You Know?
The Old Courthouse at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial was a gathering place for pioneers going west. It was also the site of several important nineteeth century trials which helped fuel major changes to the American way of life. To learn more about the Old Courthouse click here.
