Electronic Records Archives (ERA)

ERA Research Laboratory Demonstrations

The Producer Archive Workflow Network
(PAWN)

PAWN is an application developed by ERA Research partners at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) to manage the disposition and transfer of electronic records, and their associated metadata, from the records creator's system(s) to the archival repository.

It allows records managers to input records disposition instructions along with the "local" names for records into the system. Records creators can identify records (and metadata for the records), on their own computers, that should be transmitted to the archival repository based on those disposition instructions.

The records are then bundled with information about who created them, their disposition authority, access restrictions, and other information necessary to manage, preserve, and provide access to the records. This package is then transferred to the archival repository for accessioning.
