- Responsible for civil and structural designs for civil works projects, including construction and reconnaissance and feasibility investigations for the Civil Planning and Engineering Branch.
- Writes specifications for civil and structural designs for civil works projects, and for relocation requirements for military and civil works projects.
- Prepares and negotiates agreements with owners of facilities to be relocated for civil works and military projects. Reviews design of relocation projects submitted by owners and contract designers. Supervises investigations and coordinates design of relocations to be performed by the Government.
- Prepares, negotiates, and manages design contracts, and supervises A-E design contracts.
- Performs bridge inspections and periodic inspections of the projects to assure that the facilities are adequately maintained and operational for the intended purpose. Inspection reports are published as a record of the inspection along with recommendations for repair and maintenence of the facilities. See Geotechnical Section for the schedule of periodic inspections. Bridge inspections are conducted every two years for public bridges in accordance with ER 1110-2-111. Bridges that are not open to the public, such as, service bridges to control towers, are inspected on a 5 year cycle.
