About NARA's Northeast Region Records Center Program

Since 1934, the National Archives has provided comprehensive records management support and archival guidance and services to the Federal Government. Since the opening of the National Archives and Records Administration's first records center in 1950, NARA has developed its records center system into a national network of fifteen facilities. These facilities store and provide access to more than 22 million cubic feet of records.

The Northeast Region's Records Center Program is an essential component of NARA's services to the federal government. We are dedicated to providing superior records storage, access, and disposition services. We employ a professional staff that is familiar with your programs and your records.

We maintain approximately 600,000 cubic feet of temporary records transferred from Federal agencies located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, and provide other related services such as courtesy storage for Members of Congress from all New England districts. The Code of Federal Regulations governs all Federal Agency records maintained at the facility. Access to all records at the records center is controlled by the agency of origin.

Agency records stay in the records center, where they are tracked through an automated database, until they are either destroyed through recycling or accepted by The National Archives and Records Administration as permanent records.

We are a cost-effective organization committed to providing quality customer service using the latest information technology systems at record center locations nationwide.

As part of our commitment to our Federal customers, our facility provides the best in environmental controls and safeguards and meets all Federal records storage standards. The use of advanced fire suppression equipment and other structural standards significantly improve the environment and safeguards for your records. Secure facilities mean secure records.
