Riparian areas, which occur as vegetated strips along rivers, streams, and other aquatic areas, are recognized as a valuable resource on Corps lands. Functions of healthy riparian areas include streambank and shoreline stabilization, control and reduction of nonpoint-source pollution, and provision of food and shelter for wildlife. Research both within and outside of ERDC is being used to assist in improving management of this resource for a variety of physical and ecological functions. |
