William Howard Taft National Historic Site offers a variety of activities suitable for visiting educational groups. The ranger-guided experience is available, staff members are available for park tours for all individual group visits. The information below is intended for groups planning a ranger-guided trip.

To Schedule a Field Trip

Teachers wishing to bring their class to the William Howard Taft Historic Site should contact Training Specialist, Kerry Wood at 513-684-3262. If Mr. Wood is unavailable other park staff can provide assistance to you.

Guided tours of the boyhood home are available every half-hour.

Guidelines for a Pleasant Visit

1.      It is imperative that each group arrives at the scheduled time. Early or late arrivals cause confusion, and may result in a delay until other groups have been accommodated.

2.      Generally, the stops will alternate between the Taft Education center and the Taft house.  Students will also meet Charlie Taft the park’s animatronics robot. Charlie is the youngest son of William Howard & Nellie Taft. If you have more than 35 students in a group, please divide into two groups before you arrive. Please be conscious of each bus or group of walking students’ location at all times. Limited bus parking is available outside of the visitor center parking area and in front of the Taft house. Buses may also park in our extended parking lot area located on Southern Avenue. When you call to make reservations, please call at least two weeks in advance.

3.      At least one adult chaperone (preferably two or more) should accompany each group of 25-30 students. Our staff size is limited. Teachers are responsible for the conduct of the group.

4.     Public restrooms and water fountains are available at the Taft Education Center and the Taft House.

5       The mission of the National Park Service is to preserve over 93 million acres in four hundred units for the enjoyment of future generations. These parks protect not only the amazing natural history of our country, but our cultural heritages as well.

                                                           6.      Ensure that students are adequately supervised at all times.

                                                           7.      Inform your students that the Taft house is a museum setting and discourage them from touching or rubbing any of the historic furnishings.

                                                           8.      A thirty minute pre-visit program out at your school by the Training Specialist is recommended at least one week prior to your field trip.
