  Recreation and Education Opportunities

Environmental Education
Refuge personnel conduct teacher workshops throughout the year. Contact the main office for structured programming requests. All ages and group types welcome!

Fishing
Northern pike and bullheads inhabit refuge waters, as well as black crappies, bluegills, and sunfish. Sprague and Goose pools are open to fishing from June 1 through September 15 and December 15 through March 15. Suk Cerney Flowage is open year round, except during waterfowl season. Harvey's Pond is open year round.

Hunting
Portions of the refuge are open to deer, migratory waterfowl, wild turkey, and small game hunting in accordance with State regulations. No special Federal-hunting permit is required.

Interpretation
Brochures and panels are posted at main refuge entrances. The visitor information and contact station, located in the refuge office, helps orient visitors. A self-guided auto tour, following the "Hot Spots" brochure, guides visitors through diverse habitats. The tour is open year round, weather and roads permitting.

Wildlife Observation
Spectacular opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife should not be overlooked at Necedah. A two-tier tower that faces a large marsh is located off Grand Dike Road, and a wildlife photography blind is within hiking distance from the main office. Walking trails lead through oak savanna, prairie, and woodlands. Get a good look at animal tracks in the snow by cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, which are permitted refuge-wide from December 15 to March 31.

Hours
Refuge Headquarters and Visitor Contact Station - 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday and weekends during high visitation seasons. Wildlife Drive and Outdoor Facilities - dawn to dusk year round.

Entrance Fees
