The aim of this effort is to create a working list of
genomic competencies for the public health workforce. Genomic competencies
are the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for the public health
workforce to integrate genomic discoveries into Public Health actions that
promote health and prevent disease.
This effort derives from a broader CDC/ATSDR mission to improve
the ability of public health workers nationwide to perform the
essential services of public health and to prepare the workforce to
respond to current and emerging health threats.
Primary target audience: The federal, state, and local public health
workforce (approximately 500,000 persons)
