Letter from General U.S. Grant to President Abraham Lincoln
Letter from General Ulysses S. Grant to President Abraham Lincoln. The letter was written by Grant as he lay siege to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Grant is
informing President Lincoln that General Banks had Port Hudson "closely invested" The letter is dated June 8, 1863. Port Hudson would hold out for over a month
more; surrendering to General Banks on July 9, 1863, five days after Grant took of Vicksburg.
