Issue	The Final Rule issued on December 31, 2002, regarding coverage of PT-INR in-home monitoring for anticoagulation management, limits the discussion of indications for payment to patients with mechanical heart valves.
Status	Our coverage experts believe there is currently enough published data to support coverage for home testing only for patients with artificial valves. Studies currently under way will help us to decide whether or not to cover home testing for patients who are on coumadin for other reasons.
