iodine I 131 metaiodobenzylguanidine
An I 131 radioiodinated synthetic analogue of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. Meta-iodobenzylguanidine localizes to adrenergic tissue and, in radioiodinated forms, may be used to image or eradicate tumor cells that take up and metabolize norepinephrine.
