The National Archives-Central Plains Region utilizes a flat screen monitor and document camera to help bring history to life for students, educators and genealogists.

  • Is your classroom a long way from Kansas City?
    Use Interactive Distance Learning to make a virtual visit to the National Archives-Central Plains!

  • Teachers select one of five lessons. Each is taught by an Archivist from the National Archives – Central Plains Region:
    Introduction to Teaching with Documents, Civil War in the Border States, the American West-Westward Expansion, Online Resources for Educators at the National Archives, and Students Experiencing History Online.

  • Using the document camera, students can examine documents, photos, and 3-dimensional artifacts. This serves as a way to enlarge a document for easy reading in the classroom. In addition, electronic or hard copies of most items are available for further use.

  • Items shared with the students include: journal entries, correspondence, artifacts, and other documents— Bringing American History to Life!
