The National Archives-Central Plains Region and the National World War I Museum are presenting the following films free to the public. Each film will be introduced and will be shown in the J.C. Nichols Auditorium at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial, 100 W 26th St., Kansas City, MO 64108. All films will have a repeat showing on the following Saturdays at Noon.

Friday, February 1: Wings (1927) starring Clara Bow, Jobyna Ralston, Richard Arlen and Charles “Buddy” Rogers (a native of Olathe, Kansas), tells the story of two young men who go off to become fighter pilots. The movie, directed by William Wellman, a World War I aviator himself, won the first Oscar ever awarded for Best Picture.

Friday, February 8: Hell’s Angels (1930) tells the story of two English brothers who enlist in the Royal Flying Corps during World War I. Starring Kansas City native Jean Harlow, credited as Jean Harlowe.

Friday, February 22: The Dawn Patrol (1938) tells the story of a squadron of the Royal Flying Corps and the dangerous missions undertaken. Starring Errol Flynn, David Niven, and Basil Rathbone, who served during World War I.

Friday, February 29: The Blue Max (1966) stars George Peppard as a young German pilot attempting to earn the German medal given out for 20 kills. Also starring James Mason and Ursula Andress.

Friday, March 14: Flyboys (2006) starring James Franco, portrays American pilots who flew for the French in the Lafayette Escadrille before the United States entered World War I.
