National Archives in Waltham Offers Workshops for Teachers and Genealogists

Waltham, MA... The National Archives-Northeast Region is offering free workshops for teachers and genealogists during the fall of 2004.

Further, the National Archives is now registered with the Massachusetts Department of Education and can offer 10 Professional Development Points (PDPs) to Massachusetts teachers.

The title of the PDP course is "Using Historical Documents at the National Archives." Teachers must take 5 of the Thursday or Saturday 2-hour workshops (10 hours total) to earn 10 PDPs. Teachers must attend a special session, "Application of Research Methods", as one of the 5 workshops in order to earn the 10 PDPs. This special session will be offered Thursday December 2 at 6:30 PM, and at other times next year. The Application of Research Methods workshop may be taken at anytime after at least 2 other teacher workshops have been completed. Call (866) 406-2379 for more information.

All workshops, including the teacher workshops, are open to all individuals.

The workshops will be offered at the Regional Archives building, located at 380 Trapelo Road in Waltham, MA according to the following schedule. Tours of the archives will be given at 1:30 before workshops marked with an asterisk (*).

Workshop and tour space is limited to 20 participants. Call (866) 406-2379 to register and for more details. There is no fee.

Workshops are beginner level. Participants will learn what they need to know in order to locate records as well as what one might expect to find in the records.
