Breast Cancer
Frequently Asked Questions
20. What kinds of surgery are available for
women with breast cancer?
Surgery, as opposed to chemotherapy or radiation, is the most
common treatment for breast cancer. The kind of surgery a woman has
is based on the type and stage of the cancer. Most women can choose
between breast-conserving surgery that removes the cancer but not
the breast, or surgery that removes the entire breast and sometimes
the surrounding tissue.
