Bicycles are not available for rent inside the park.
If you plan to bring a bicycle, be aware that in Arizona bicycles are subject to the same traffic rules as automobiles. Use extreme caution when riding on park roads! Shoulders are narrow and vehicle traffic is heavy.
Bicycles Sites are available in the park's Campgrounds
The bicycle/backpack sites at Mather Campground (S. Rim) and at the North Rim Campground, are shared sites. Bicycle/backpack sites are $6.00 per person, per night. NO CARS ALLOWED!
Bicyclist Warning: Bicycles are permitted on all paved and unpaved park roads and the new Greenway Trail (South Rim.) They are prohibited on all other trails, including the Rim Trail. Bicyclists must obey all traffic regulations. Always ride single file with the flow of traffic. See and be seen; wear bright colors and a helmet.
The entire length of Hermit Road is now closed to all vehicles beyond the Hermit Road intersection with Village Loop Road.
Grand Canyon National Park is repaving and improving the seven-mile long historic Hermit Road, located on the South Rim between Grand Canyon Village and Hermits Rest.
- July 7, 2008: The entire length of Hermit Road will be closed to all vehicles beyond the Hermit Road intersection with Village Loop Road. In addition the Rim Trail will be closed beyond Trailview Overlook I. Periodic trail closures closer to the intersection may occur when construction activities take place near the trail or near the trail access. Alternative routes and activities are described here.
- Construction Activities on the Hermit Road are expected to be completed by the end of November, 2008.
