The Rocky Mountains (Colorado has 56 mountain peaks over 14,000 feet) are within easy driving distance. If you don't have time to travel into the Rockies, at least venture into the Foothills - at 8,000 feet they qualify as mountains in other parts of the country. Located on the high plains, at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver has a mild, dry, arid climate. We average about 300 days of sunshine a year. We are a mile high and some folks may experience a shortness of breath or headache but generally you have to be much higher (8 or 9,000 feet) to feel this effect. If you should suffer from these ailments, take it easy and drink water.
Weather changes rapidly here in Colorado and the temperature falls quickly once the sun has set. Average summer temperature is 85 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 56 at night.
