About the Federal Records Center

The Rocky Mountain Region's Federal Records Center (FRC) is an essential component of the National Archives and Records Administration's services to the Federal government.

The FRC provides records storage services for Federal agencies in the Rocky Mountain Region. We are dedicated to providing superior records storage, access, and disposition services. This integrated approach yields great benefits to you, the customer, as NARA is an active participant from the creation of your records through their final disposition.

The program is administered by a professional staff that is familiar with your program, your records, and your records management needs.

  • We maintain approximately 600,000 cubic feet of retired records temporarily transferred from Federal agencies located in Colorado, Utah, Montana, the Dakotas, Wyoming, and New Mexico.

  • We provide other related services, such as courtesy storage for Members of Congress.

  • We are a cost-effective organization committed to providing quality customer service using the latest information technology systems at record center locations nationwide, governed by Public Law 106-58.

  • Agency records stay in the Federal Records Center, where they are tracked through an automated database, until they are either destroyed through recycling or accepted by the National Archives Division as permanent records.

  • Access to all records at the facility is controlled by the agency of origin.

All Federal agency records maintained at the facility are governed by the Code of Federal Regulations. Also, all Federal agency records management and interaction with the facility is governed by the Code of Federal Regulations as it relates to records management.
