The Department of Geosciences is one of eight programs administered by the College of Science and Engineering and is located in Thornton Hall on the campus of San Francisco State University. The present Chair of the Department is Oswaldo Garcia.

 

The Department has undergraduate degree programs in the fields of geology, earth science, meteorology and oceanography and offers the MS in Geosciences. The Department of Geosciences is an Academic Affiliate of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR).

SF-Rocks

SF-ROCKS (Reaching Out to Communities and Kids With Science) is a collaborative geoscience education project between SFSU faculty and high schools in the southeast part of San Francisco. The project connects urban youth with the geosciences issues of the SF Bay Region.

SFSU CREEP Project

This fault-creep-monitoring project was created by Jon Galehouse in 1979, and is funded by the U.S.G.S.'s National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program. The project has produced an invaluable and unique data set and has reliably provided research assistantships for more than two dozen SFSU students.
