Description: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Working Group on Women in Biomedical Careers, National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH), are sponsoring a one-day workshop; Women in Biomedical Research: Best Practices for Sustaining Career Success, which will be held on March 4th at the NIH campus. Many organizations, such as academic health centers, pharmaceutical companies and branches of government are faced with the challenges of how to recruit, retain, facilitate re-entry, and promote advancement of professional women who have chosen careers in biomedical research. The purpose of this workshop is to highlight some of the best practices that these organizations have developed with the goal of determining which practices can be applied and adapted to the needs of women in biomedical research. For more information, see http://womeninscience.nih.gov/bestpractices.

The Best Practices Workshop is one of the efforts of the NIH Working Group on Women in Biomedical Careers http://womeninscience.nih.gov, which is co-chaired by Dr. Elias Zerhouni, NIH Director and Dr. Vivian W. Pinn, NIH Associate Director for Research on Women’s Health. The Working Group was created to develop innovative strategies and tangible actions to promote the advancement of women in biomedical research.
