Dr. Rosenthal is the Director of CRIISP. In addition he is a Professor and Division Director of General Internal Medicine in the Carver College of Medicine, and Professor of Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa. Dr. Rosenthal is a Veterans Affairs Senior Quality Scholar and directs the Veterans Affairs Quality Scholar Fellowship Training Program at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He is a prolific investigator who has pioneered several novel approaches to quality measurement, including a program to evaluate hospital quality on a regional level—Cleveland Health Quality Choice—that serves as a national model. Dr. Rosenthal’s research has centered around four related themes: 1) organizational interventions to improve health care quality and costs; 2) patient safety; 3) relative performance of Veterans Affairs and private sector hospitals; and 4) severity and case-mix adjustment. Dr. Rosenthal is a prior recipient of a Veterans Affairs Health Services Research & Development Career Development Award (1995-98) and is a prior Picker/Commonwealth Scholar in Patient-Centered Care (1993-95).
